Overview

This trip is designed to provide international visitors in Augusta with an opportunity to visit our nation's capital, enjoy hospitality by Christian families in the Washington, D.C., area, and spend time with friends from The International Link. The trip is open to all international students, scholars, researchers, soldiers, faculty & staff in the Augusta, Georgia, area. If space permits, the trip may also be opened to internationals outside of the Augusta area.

Registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, or as soon as all 25 spaces are filled. Go to the bottom of this page to register now!

Dates

• Depart: Wednesday, June 9, 2010
• Return: Sunday, June 13, 2010

Trip Fee

• $125 per person, regardless of age, if registering BEFORE May 1
• $150 per person, regardless of age, if registering ON OR AFTER May 1
• Once paid, the trip fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Costs: How much money should I plan to spend?

• The total Trip Cost is $125 per person (increases to $150 on May 1).

• Food expenses are estimated at $80 per person (estimate only, may vary for each person). You will eat a total of about 10 meals on your own (not with host). Obviously, the cost depends on what you wish to eat and how much. A rough estimate will be about $8 per meal; thus, approximately $80 per person. We will eat at some fast food restaurants as we travel but you may bring food with you if you wish. Any food that you bring with you must be non-perishable, as we cannot guarantee that refrigerators will be available.

• You may wish to bring $25 - $50 per person for sightseeing, although most major sites in Washington are free.

• Subway expenses are estimated at $21 per person (an all-day subway pass is $7 per person, per day).

Lodging: Where will we stay?

• After arriving in the Washington, D.C., area we will stay in private homes with host families from local Christian churches. You may be asked to bring your own sleeping bag or air mattress. If this is necessary, you will be informed at least 2 weeks before the trip, when your host home is assigned.

Transportation: How will we get there?

• Several volunteers with The Internatioanl Link in Augusta will serve as group leaders for the trip. We will drive two 15-passenger vans from Augusta to Washington, D.C.
• Once we arrive in D.C., we will commute between host homes and downtown D.C. either by subway or by van (this will vary, depending on where your host home is located).

Sightseeing: What will we do?

We will have group tours of the U.S. Capitol and the Voice of America broadcast studios. On Saturday we will spend the entire day with our host families. During the rest of our time in Washington, you are free to choose what you want to do! In the past we have visited the following sites:

Other Details

• ***If one or more of your family members who will be participating in the trip does not speak English, you are required to register an English-speaking friend or family member to serve as their translator. ***
• Please understand that your registration is not complete until your trip deposit has been paid. Once paid, your deposit is non-refundable.
• In registering, you acknowledge that your photo may be taken during this trip and may be used by Link for the purpose of advertising or promoting the organization and future events.
• Link reserves the right to cancel the trip if there is not enough interest, or if other unforeseen circumstances arise. If Link cancels the trip, you will be refunded in full for any fees paid.
• Details of this trip, including lodging and transportation arrangements, are subject to change at Link's discretion based on the number of participants or other circumstances that may arise.
